Cardinal Tech Talks May 1, 2019

Come learn with us in Usdan room 110 on May 1st! Below is a comprehensive list of the sessions:

9:00-10:00 AM Session with Alex Vazquez from Wesleyan ITS:

LinkedIn Learning/Lynda.com

Discover the benefits of LinkedIn Learning (formally Lynda.com). Learn to navigate the website, create a playlist and increase your productivity by learning workplace essentials. We all have unique jobs at Wesleyan, and LinkedIn Learning can help us become more efficient at the things we do every day!

Alex is an Academic Tech Training Specialist with the ITS department at Wesleyan. He supports faculty, staff, and students with software training and integration of multimedia in the classroom.

10:00-11:00 AM Session with Lori Warner from Apple:

Apple iOS and Apple TV in the classroom

Tips and tricks in iOS 12 and screen sharing to enhance collaboration and engagement in the classroom  Do you have an iPhone or iPad? Do you want to learn more about new features such as screen recording, multitasking, built in scanning and the new file system?  Become more organized, save time and increase productivity while untethering yourself from the podium.   Using the built in Airplay function, you can share your screen with the class —or ask your students (with Apple devices) to do the same.  Learn how easy it is to leverage the Apple TV to provide for greater collaboration and interactivity with your students.  Share your Powerpoint or Keynote slides, zoom in on objects that you want to share with the entire class, bring in an expert virtually on the big screen or run your favorite app.  Time permitting, we will also review some Augmented Reality apps -  rendering objects that are hard to imagine and turning them into 3D models, thus making it easier to grasp abstract and difficult content. The possibilities are endless.

Lori is an account executive with Apple in the education sector. She helps colleges, universities and teaching hospitals transform education through technology. She will be available after this session for office hours if you have more questions!

1:30-2:30 PM Session with Rick Bettencourt from Apple:

Apple Digital Course Materials

Create your own customized digital books - Apple’s Digital Books and suite of supporting applications have taken yet another leap ahead in transforming teaching and learning! Learn about Digital Book production and how to use the latest Apple tools to create interactive, engaging and meaningful digital content for the classroom. The Digital Book form allows students to stay focused on the page and limits distraction by external elements that are not part of your prescribed content. The iWork collection of Apps has Web-based versions of Pages, Keynotes and Numbers at iCloud.com that allow you to provide content and interactives for students. All of these work across macOS, iOS and cross-platforms through a web browser. iBooks Author lets you create even more immersive, interactive, and engaging, digital works, that will take learning to a whole new level. Facilitated by Rick Bettencourt, Apple System Engineer.

Rick is a Senior System Engineer at Apple. He will be available after his session for office hours and additional questions, if you'd like to spend more time with him!

2:30-3:30 PM Session with Alex Vazquez from Wesleyan ITS:

Microsoft Outlook Quick Tips

Discover new ways to be more efficient in Microsoft Outlook. Learn about the scheduling feature, how to create a Wesleyan signature, and how to organize your inbox! Bring your questions - Alex will be available to answer questions after this session if you have specific needs.

Every participant at every session receives a raffle ticket which is immediately redeemable at Cardinal Tech for a prize. The prize wheel will be up and available May 1-May 3rd. Tickets expire at 5PM on May 3rd. No purchase necessary.
